Itinerary

Day 01 : Rishikesh to Joshimath

Drive to Joshimath via the beautiful Alaknanda valley.\nOvernight in a hotel to prepare for the long trek.

Day 02 : Joshimath to Bhyundar & Trek to Raj Kharak

Drive to Bhyundar village.\nBegin the steep ascent through untouched forests.\nReach the camping grounds at Raj Kharak and rest.

Day 03 : Raj Kharak to Kagbhusandi Lake

Navigate a challenging route over boulders and moraines.\nCross the Kankul Pass (5230m).\nDescend to the mystifying Kagbhusandi Lake.\nCamp near the glacial lake.

Day 04 : Kagbhusandi Lake to Ghangaria

A steep descent negotiating tricky glacial trails.\nTrek towards the base camp village of Ghangaria.\nOvernight rest in a guesthouse.

Day 05 : Ghangaria to Govindghat to Rishikesh

Trek down the final leg to Govindghat.\nDrive back to Rishikesh to conclude the trip.

Fitness Requirements

Difficult and demanding trek. Previous high-altitude trekking experience is absolutely necessary. Trekkers must be capable of navigating boulder zones and glacier crossings.

Preparation Tips:

  • Start jogging 3-4 kms a day at least a month before the trek.
  • Practice walking with a 5kg backpack.
  • Do squats and lunges to build thigh and calf muscle strength.
  • Practice yoga for better lung capacity (Pranayama).

Do's and Don'ts

Do's

  • Carry sufficient warm clothing and rain gear.
  • Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water during the trek.
  • Respect the local culture and religious sentiments at Hemkund Sahib.
  • Keep the trekking trails and campsites clean (Leave No Trace).

Don'ts

  • Do not pluck any flowers or disturb the flora in the valley.
  • Do not consume alcohol or smoke during the expedition.
  • Do not leave your group or trek alone without informing the guide.
  • Do not litter or leave plastic behind.
